Floor sealed once

“D-Day is a term often used in military parlance to denote the day on which a combat attack or operation is to be initiated.” says Wikipedia. Although obviously I have no desire to compare our project with the military or combat attacks or anything similar, we are getting a bit anxious. Positive anxious of course.

Even normally extremely cool Vanja showed some apprehension this morning about the move which will likely happen in the next three to four weeks. The contractors should leave the property on the 30th. And it seems reasonably likely that they will.

As you can see above, the floor is sealed, it is dark and shiny, but I think it looks better when you see it “live” and it looks good and not too dark. Phew.

Things that needed fixing

There were few things that guys needed to fix before they sealed it – like these corners above. As I wasn’t there while all of this was done, I can only hope it is good and tidy in a way I would like it to be. Actually I doubt that – but as long as it is “tidy enough”.

I asked the guy doing the floors if he wants to be mentioned in my blog if all ends up being well. He said “only for much larger surfaces”. A shame as there seems to be a gap in the market for concrete floors in domestic interiors. But then, how many crazy woman actually do want these in their homes? Heh?

Putting facade up progresses nicely. More grey colour is added to the house.

In the end, I didn’t have to decide the finish for it. For now, we will only impregnate it with something called “Unigrund” in some light beige tone and the final finish will wait another year. Trying to save some cash 🙂

I almost like this grey, but I admit it is a bit dull and scary for the environment it is in.

(Currently) grey house meets stone house

In the future, to divide our private space from guest’s apartments, there will be a wall between stone houses/apartments and “our” house. Stone wall I hope, quite tall. 2.13 m to be precise.

And it should be 2.13 m because, sometimes during the winter, I have found and bought these very cool metal doors to be the entrance doors to “our” part of the yard. So these doors are to be incorporated somehow with that future wall. And they are 2.13 m tall. Apparently they were taken from an old house in Istria and brought to Zagreb where I bought them. Only to take them back to Istria. As it should be 🙂

The wall below the pool is finished and looks magnificent. I like this makeshift bench in this place so will ask the guys to leave it there 🙂

Great wall meets old wall

There was a hiccup with this wall – part of it was taken down by mistake and then to pool was build in such a (wrong) way it was sticking out too much. Still, as I was told, it all is now covered and nobody but Vjeko, Zdenko, Slađana and me will know about the mini drama we had at the time. Well, and all of the people reading this I guess.

Pool still waiting

Somebody asked the other day how is the pool. Not much has changed with it. It is now waiting for a few more things to be done around it and the electricity to be connected so the company doing the installation can start on it. Apparently they need 3 or 4 days to make it functional. And filled with water. Cannot wait or imagine how will that look like or what it will entail in terms of maintenance etc. You will find out.

After our visit to the site, we (Zdenko, Slađana, Vjeko and I) normally go for lunch and then head back to Zagreb. Yesterday Zdenko and I came back to the site after lunch to measure few more things up.

On the picture above he is trying to convince me about the perfect spot for a sun (well, shade) lounger. This is the south corner of the pool, towards the great wall from the pictures above. The idea was that this will be green slope and people won’t be able to walk on it (I don’t want any fences on top of that wall and I’m sure there will be some law telling me I should put one if the lounger is to be there). Still, it really is the perfect shady afternoon-by-the-pool spot. So, change of plan is in order.

Throughout the project Zdenko was an enormous help. I really recommend hiring somebody like that for a project like this or even much smaller. Not only having him by my side as support relieved much, much stress, I know it saved us quite a bit of money as well. And paying him payed itself off manyfold. So, recommended totally.

Afternoon sun

And, as we are normally there between 11am and 2pm, it was nice to see it in an afternoon sun this time. Pretty.
